CWS Sliding & Patio Doors: The Tampa Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CWS-compatible rollers, handles, locks, weatherstripping, and track components for sliding and patio doors across Tampa, with most hardware replacements running $185 to $420 installed and full door panel replacements running $2,400 to $5,600 depending on glass package and size. Parts are typically on the truck, which means we can often handle the repair in one visit. The way homeowners usually discover the failure is hard to miss: the door that used to glide now drags across the track like it’s hauling sand, or the handle no longer catches the latch, or you’ve got a gap at the meeting stile that lets July air pour straight into the living room.

TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with CWS, but we’ve worked on enough CWS doors in Tampa to know which years and series have which hardware, and what actually fails first in Florida’s humidity and salt air.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS has put out a few sliding and patio door lines over the years, and the hardware does not always cross over. The two series we see most in Tampa homes are the CWS 700 Series and the CWS 900 Series. The 700 runs a narrower stile and typically a recessed mortise handle set; the 900 uses a wider profile with a surface-mount handle option and heavier tandem rollers. If you’re not sure which you have, open the door and look at the top corner of the fixed panel or the bottom of the operating panel. CWS etches the series and often the manufacture date into the spacer bar between the glass panes, but the surest identification is the sticker on the top rail, if it’s still there.

The compatibility gotcha we run into constantly: CWS doors from before roughly 2010 used a 1-1/4 inch roller housing that is no longer OEM-sourced. Homeowners try to swap in a generic adjustable roller from the big box store and find the door binds or rides off the track. We keep OEM-spec housings and a machined steel aftermarket equivalent that actually fits that older profile. For newer CWS units, OEM rollers are still available and worth the extra twenty dollars over a generic; the stainless bearing race holds up far longer in Florida’s moist air than the zinc-plated versions. If you’re pulling a handle set, measure the mounting screw spacing before you buy anything. CWS used two different latches across the same series depending on manufacture year, and the wrong one leaves you drilling a fresh hole in painted aluminum. We’ve seen it too many times.

Signs Your CWS Sliding & Patio Door Is Failing

  • The door drags or skips on the track. Rollers are flattened or the bearing race is corroded. In Tampa, the salt air over toward South Tampa and Davis Islands accelerates this faster than inland neighborhoods like Carrollwood or Temple Terrace, but every CWS roller eventually wears.
  • You have to lift the door to get it to move. The adjustable roller has lost its setting and the door panel is now riding on the bottom track lip instead of the wheels. Running it like this gouges the track, and then you’re looking at track replacement, not just rollers.
  • The handle turns but the latch doesn’t catch. The latch hook has worn down or the keep on the jamb has shifted. This is a security issue, not just an annoyance. If the door can be pushed open from outside with a flat tool, it needs a latch now.
  • Visible daylight or a draft along the meeting stile. The wool pile weatherstrip has flattened or rotted out. In Florida, that gap is an energy leak you pay for every month in the summer, and it lets insects in.
  • The door grinds when you open it after rain. Dirt and sand have packed into the roller housings. If you wait, the debris scores the track and pits the rollers. A cleaning won’t fix a wheel that’s already grooved.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Tampa CWS doors, here’s what our installed pricing actually looks like:

  • Roller replacement (both panels, tandem rollers): $185-$340 installed
  • Handle and latch set replacement: $160-$280 installed, depending on series
  • Full weatherstripping and threshold seal replacement: $120-$210 installed
  • Track repair or replacement (when the old track is gouged): $300-$650 installed
  • Complete door panel replacement (same opening, new CWS-compatible panel): $2,400-$5,600 depending on glass, size, and impact rating

Every price is a written line-item quote before work starts. You’ll see the part cost and the labor cost separately. No change orders, no surprise line added to the bill after the fact. And when we install a part, our 90-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship. If the door still drags or binds because of something we did, we come back and fix it. No paperwork fight. No arguing.

DIY or Call Us?

Sliding door rollers and handles sit under spring tension, and a door panel can weigh 150 to 220 pounds. If you try to tilt the panel out of the frame without knowing how it’s set, the thing can come down on your hands or feet. That’s not scare talk; we’ve repaired the results of that job more than once. What you can safely do yourself: clean the bottom track with a stiff brush and a shop vac, and check the screws on the handle and keep plate. If the door still drags after the track is clean, leave it. The springs under the roller housings are under load, and if one releases while your hand is in there, it’s a trip to the ER. Call us at (813) 320-9346 and let a tech who’s set hundreds of CWS doors in Tampa handle it. The estimate is free, and most roller and handle jobs are done in one visit.

What Neighbors Say About TruePane Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."

PPat and Ray L.
★★★★★

"Our bay window had rotted at the sill and two other outfits wanted to talk us into a flat picture window instead. TruePane rebuilt the opening and matched the original look. Neighbors have knocked on the door about it."

GGene A.
★★★★

"Quote was the price, which after three other bids that grew legs was worth something. Double-hungs went in clean, they hauled the old ones, and the registration paperwork for the warranty came in the mail like they said."

DDorothy K.
★★★★★

"French doors to the patio, custom size because this house was built in 1961 and nothing is standard. Measured twice, three weeks to fabricate like they warned, and the install day they laid runners over my floors without being asked."

MMarie S.
★★★★★

"A casement crank had stripped and the sash was swollen shut. The technician, Ray, fixed the crank on the spot and only then talked about replacement for the three windows that were genuinely done. That is why the whole street uses them now."

EEleanor G.
★★★★★

"Eleven windows replaced in two days. The crew chief, Marcus, showed me the level on every single frame before they caulked it. My wife noticed the street noise was gone before I did."
